Description
This exceptionally flavorful coffee is full of sweet notes of dark chocolate, caramel, & brown sugars. Offering a big, bold body and above average sweetness, this delicious, interesting dark roast has a smooth finish and checks all the boxes.
Courtlyn & Erich selected this coffee during their visit to the Naimeg Family‘s farms in July of 2023. While the coffee itself was a total treat, both C&E fell in love with the family behind the coffee and their story. After tasting several great coffees on the trip from many farms, it was the warm welcome and immediate bonding that sealed the deal on Coffee Corral offering a Naimeg Estate Brazil (and maybe a few Cachaças around a picnic table into the wee hours of the morning!).
Cerrado is a region in the state of Minas Gerais, the largest coffee-producing state in Brazil. Coffee has been a major crop in this region since the 1980’s mainly because of the devastating black frost of 1975 that forced growers from the Parana region to relocate north to Cerrado and other areas of Minas Gerais. Today, coffee is produced by over 4,500 growers on 175,000 hectares of farmland with yields of approximately 5.5 to 6.0 million bags per year. The coffee is grown in rich soil that the natives call “Terra Roxa” or “Red Earth” and other factors such as consistent rains, high daytime temperatures, and dry winters combine to make the Cerrado region ideal for producing coffee.
A little about the Naimeg Family.
The Naimeg’s started producing coffees in 1965, when father, Gerson Naimeg, and his wife Hercilia, started their first coffee plantations in northern Parana State. Years later, in 1981, after having their plantation hit by three major frosts, it was necessary to brace new frontiers to continue perpetuating their dream elsewhere. It was then that Gerson decided to migrate to the Cerrado Mineiro Region.
In 2014, Gerson passed away, leaving his six sons to lead the way. Since that time, the sons have experimented with new varietals and found they could create quality coffees better then what the region was currently offering. They have since won numerous awards for their unique varietals and have expanded the operation to three farms and continue to experiment with new varietals.
