Why Choose Organic Coffee?
Organic coffee is made from coffee beans that have been grown without the use of pesticides and insecticides, which can be harmful to humans and the environment. While these pesticides and insecticides are probably burned off by the roasting process, and therefore likely don’t make it into the coffee cup, some scientists believe that traces could linger after roasting.
Regardless, many pesticides and insecticides are unhealthy for the workers who grow the coffee beans, and damaging to the land on which they are used.
In order for coffee to be certified organic by the United States Department of Agriculture, the entire process by which the product arrives in your hands must be organic–in the case of coffee, this means that not only the growing process, but also the roasting and even the packaging processes must be organic.
Fair Trade Organic Coffee
Most of the organic coffees on our coffee menu at Coffee Corral are also fair trade. Organic, fair trade coffee is the most farmer-friendly kind of coffee.
Fair trade practices mean that farmers in developing countries get a fair price for their harvest through long-term relationships with international traders, which can help them to combat poverty for their families and their communities.
Fair trade farms also operate under fair labor conditions and sustainable farming methods, and their farmers invest Fair Trade premiums into community development projects.
